The sfv650 helps define a unique motorcycling experience. With a compact open trellis frame, aggressive styling, and a 645cc v-twin, double overhead camshaft power plant, the sfv650 appeals from the outside in. Dual floating front brake discs measure 290mm in diameter and work with dual piston calipers; single 240mm rear disc brake disc works with a single piston caliper. Single rear shock is connected to the rectangular-section steel swingarm through a progressive linkage which allows the suspension to react smoothly to bumps and improve overall ride comfort. Front forks feature 41mm stanchions with spring preload adjustability over a 15mm range and front wheel travel is 4. 9 in. Instrument cluster is positioned above the headlight and provides an analog tachometer, lcd digital speedometer, lcd dual trip-meters and odometer. An lcd digital clock, and lcd digital gear position indicator are also featured. Indicator lights include a two way remaining fuel warning lamp, backed up by an lcd digital reserve trip meter. Organically shaped multi reflector headlight incorporates high and low beams as well as a position light and flanked by chrome lens turn indicators. Compact combination tail and brake light is packaged neatly underneath the rear seat framed by stylish seat rails and also flanked by clear lens turn indicators. Each cylinder head features a compact combustion chamber with two 31mm intake valves set at 14 degrees from the cylinder centerline and two 25. 5mm exhaust valves set at 16 degrees from the cylinder centerline. Suzuki dual throttle valve (sdtv) fuel injection system provides better efficiency and throttle response through a butterfly valve system with the primary valve controlled by the rider and the secondary throttle valve controlled by the engine management system. An automatic idle speed control (isc) system is integrated into each throttle body, and produces stable idle while improving cold starting and reducing emissions immediately after start up. Dual spark plugs cylinder heads feature iridium spark plugs to reduce spark plug electrode degradation and allow the electrode to be finer producing a more intense, hotter spark and further enhancing combustion. Single valve springs reduce inertia weight and mechanical losses while maintaining accurate valve control. An oval throttle pulley helps smooth low rpm/mid-range power delivery. Race-proven suzuki composite electrochemical materials (scem) cylinder plating reduces friction and improves heat transfer, durability and ring seal. The sfv650 arrives with a lighter and narrower radiator to increase efficiency, while an enhanced liquid to liquid oil cooler reduces weight. A strong and smooth shifting 6-speed transmission. Clutch release mechanism is changed from ball-screw type to cam type system and the transmission gear engagement dogs are strengthened to help improve shifting of the six speed transmission. To reduce mechanical noise, a scissor type primary gear is split length wise with the two halves spring loaded, and the clutch and countershaft sprocket covers are now double layered for additional sound reduction.

The cylinder features suzuki composite electrochemical material (scem) for durability, weight reduction and effective heat transfer for superior class performance. A keihin™ pe28 carburetor provides smooth throttle response and is designed for simplified maintenance. The exhaust valves are made of aluminum to best match the expansion rate of the cylinder itself, improve sealing. The rm85's exhaust valve governor and actuator helps provide good throttle response and overall tractability. A digital cdi map helps provide strong engine performance at higher rpms. The rm85 comes with a large-capacity radiator for efficient engine cooling. The rm85 is equipped with a smooth shifting six-speed transmission. The transmission features a fully worked-out shift mechanism including a strong shift-drum detent spring and needle bearing on the left side of the shift drum. A knurled shift-pedal tip delivers excellent grip and shift feel. A tubular steel frame and thick wall aluminum swingarm provides class-leading performance on the track, especially in the corners. The frame was designed for increased rigidity, durability and straight-line performance; it features large diameter tubing in key areas and a large front reinforcement plate. Showa 37mm inverted front forks are completely adjustable for rider weight, style and ability. The forks feature a cartridge damping system with fully-adjustable rebound damping and 20-way adjustable compression damping (also included are fork guards to protect the inner fork tubes). The front forks offer 275mm (10. 8-inches) of travel. A showa rear shock absorber, with large diameter shock body, is designed and properly valved to produce a plush feel and increase bottoming resistance. The showa rear shock provides 277mm (10. 9-inches) of wheel travel. The rm85 comes with a twin-piston caliper front brake with 220mm (8. 7-inches) large-diameter disc and a rear brake with 200mm (7. 9-inches) disc to provide excellent braking performance. The rm85 also comes with a light, narrow-diameter front and rear brake hose. The font brake hose is routed behind the fork leg, eliminating the need for a brake hose cover, which helps reduce weight. A rigid rear brake caliper provides reliable braking performance, long pad life and is easy to maintain. A plastic rear brake caliper guard reduces the possibility of deformation and saves weight as well. The rm85's forged aluminum-alloy rear brake pedal gives the rider accurate braking feel. The rm85's footpegs are made of cast chrome-molybdenum steel, instead of stamped steel, which makes them more durable with better grip. A long clutch lever makes it easy to accurately locate and work the engagement point during starts and when clutching off at corners. Each side of the rm85's seat has textured surface for better knee gripping. The rm85's wheel sizes meet ama 85cc class regulations (front: 70/100-17; rear: 90/100-14).
